National Games: Army tops with 22 gold
PESHAWAR: Pakistan Army is on top with 22 gold medals on third day of the 31st National Games while Pakistan WAPDA obtained second position with three gold.
The colourful national sports festival continued on third day with great spirit as interesting contests were held between teams of all four provinces and various departments here at the Qayyum Sports Complex and the Pakistan Air Force Sports Complex.
Pakistan Army qualified for the semi-finals in handball event defeating Balochistan 29-3 whereas Punjab was also placed in the semis beating host Khyberpakhtunkhwa(KP) 19-8.
In karate, players of WAPDA were prominenet as Saadi Abbas won gold medal in 67kg category and Baz Mohammad in 75kg.
Atheletics event also began on third day and Zafar Iqbal of Army won gold medal in long jump while Sami of Air Force came second and Mohammad Akhtar of WAPDA third.
Mutee-ur-Rehman of WAPDA obtained gold medal in 69kg of weightlifting.
In hockey tournament being played in Abbottabad, WAPDA thrashed Pakistan Navy 5-0 while the match between AirForce and KP ended in 3-3 draw.
Pakistan Army dominated the medals table with 22 gold, 16 silver and a bronze. WAPDA got second position winning three gold, three silver and four bronze medals while Punjab came third with one gold, one silver and three bronze medals.
