Chief Minister open to US Army base in Darwin
Chief Minister Paul Henderson says he is not against the idea of a US Army base being set up in Darwin, but no-one has approached him about it.
The idea was reportedly on the agenda for discussion between the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Federal Government during her visit to Australia.
Mr Henderson says because he was born on a US Army base in France, he feels an affinity with the topic.
“I actually grew up on American military bases both in France and the UK, so I’ve got a lot of time for American military bases because the people I grew up with were a lot of fun,” he said.
“So I’ll wait to get to the bottom of this but certainly there have been no decisions and no consultation with the Territory Government.”
