Army to make all efforts to help flood victims, says COAS General Raheel Sharif

ISLAMABAD: The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, has pledged that the army would leave no stone unturned to help their brethren affected by the floods.
The ISPR, in a press release, announced that General Raheel Sharif visited the flood-affected areas in Gujranwala and Mandi Bahauddin districts on Tuesday. The army chief was briefed by the local military commanders on the ongoing rescue and relief efforts launched by the army.
He greatly appreciated the tireless efforts of field formations and the Army Aviation, working round the clock and at full capacity to provide relief to the affected people. He directed the commanders to remain proactive and employ all available resources for rescue and relief.
The sources told The News here on Tuesday evening that the visit by the army chief hadn’t only proved to be a morale booster for officers and Jawans but had also enhanced the confidence of the people in the relief and rescue efforts.
The army has been in the field ever since the floodwaters overflowed from the riverbanks.
On Tuesday, civil and military leadership were both seen in the flood-affected areas as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif were also out to provide solace to the flood victims. The prime minister appreciated the role of the army for providing relief to the flood victims while the army chief, who has been leading from the front on every occasion, reached his troops who were engaged in performing their national duty in the most professional and dedicated manner. The appearance of General Raheel Sharif helped in enhancing the morale of the troops and it was acclaimed by the people.

The army is already engaged in the war against terror, carrying out Operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan to flush out the terrorists from the area.Nevertheless, its officers and Jawans, when called for the help of flood-hit people, got quickly engaged in rescue and relief activities.
