Alert In Kashmir After Bin Laden Killing
Srinagar, May 02, KONS: The security apparatus in Kashmir was put on alert across Kashmir on Monday to deal with possible trouble after news of the killing of the Al Qaeda founder, Osama Bin Laden, by US special forces in the Pakistani city of Abbottabad.
Security has also been heightened on American assets and diplomatic missions around the world fearing Al Qaeda retaliation.
Though the Kashmir valley remained largely calm over the killing of Bin Laden, the state government took pre-emptive measures to avert untoward incidents, directing its forces to remain on alert to deal with any eventuality.
Troops along the LoC dividing Kashmir too have been asked to exercise extra vigilance.
US defence authorities have voiced fears of Al Qaeda retaliation on its assets across the globe, and security on American consulates and other installations in vulnerable regions has been heightened, with directives to US citizens not to undertake unnecessary travel outside the country.
