Pakistanis wonder what more they can do in war on militancy

More than 3,000 Pakistani soldiers have been killed, greater than the death toll among Nato forces in Afghanistan. PHOTO: REUTERS/FILE

RAWALPINDI: When Pakistan Army Sergeant Abdur Rehman hears America’s oft-repeated demand that Pakistan do more to fight militants, he glances down at the stumps of his legs and wonders what more it wants from him.
A mortar bomb shredded him from the waist down as he led an advance against Taliban fighters in 2007 in Pakistan’s unruly northwestern tribal areas on the Afghan border.
Instead of enjoying full retirement benefits, he underwent rehabilitation, was given artificial limbs and returned as a commander to a desk job in the militant-infested region where he was wounded.
“What more can Pakistanis do?,” asked Rehman, 35.
That question has often strained ties between Washington and Islamabad, but it has been posed far more frequently since US special forces killed Osama bin Laden in May in a Pakistani town, where he had apparently been living for years.
Admiral Mike Mullen said before retiring as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff last month that a militant group that had attacked US targets in Afghanistan was a “veritable arm” of Pakistani intelligence.
Then President Barack Obama put Pakistan on notice that it must go after militants or risk severing ties to the United States, the source of billions of dollars in aid.
Pakistan denies links with militant groups and says it has sacrificed more than any other country that joined the US “war on terror” after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
Officials say more than 3,000 Pakistani soldiers have been killed, greater than the combined death toll among Nato forces in Afghanistan. Nearly 10,000 have been wounded.
“Imagine how the US would react if such a number had lost their lives and then comments would come from other countries, which said that, ‘You are the problem, you are part of the problem’,” Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar said in an interview with an American radio programme.
For the relatives of soldiers killed in battles against the militants, the charges are especially outrageous.
Living on memories
Captain Omerzeb Afzal Baig and two other soldiers died in the prime of their lives when their vehicle was blown apart in May 2009 by a remote-controlled roadside bomb planted by the Taliban.
His father sits proudly in the family living room beside a large photograph of Omerzeb in military gear, taken two hours before his death in a quick reactionary force mission he had volunteered to lead.
“Look at his smartness, look at the way he is smiling, right in the battlefield area. Look at the way that he is all prepared,” said Muhammad Afzal Baig, himself a retired colonel.
“Do you see anything like worries on his face? Not a single wrinkle. He is all prepared; he is fully charged, and that is what a Pakistani soldier is made of.”
The United States wants Pakistan to crack down on militants who cross its border to attack Western forces in Afghanistan.
But although it has one of the largest militaries in the world, Islamabad says its hands are full fighting militants who attack government and civilian targets in Pakistan.
At a military rehabilitation hospital in the garrison city of Rawalpindi, amputees are surprisingly frank about how vulnerable troops have become to the Taliban militants, described as masters of guerrilla warfare, with plenty of firepower and precision.
“You just don’t know what to expect. When you launch an attack they can hit you from any side,” said wheelchair-bound private Zaheer Abbas, recalling how he flew up in the air after stepping on a home-made Taliban bomb.
“Everyday, they are growing in number. The situation is getting worse.”
Paralysis
Critics say Pakistan is partly to blame for the chaos because it nurtured militant groups for years and used them as proxies in Afghanistan or against rival India – creating a Frankenstein in its own back yard.
Pakistani officials blame US policies – such as the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan – for the instability. Thousands of militants fled from Afghanistan to northwest Pakistan at that time and formed alliances with other fighters.
Nowadays, Islamabad complains that Washington is ungrateful no matter how many losses Pakistan suffers battling militants in the border region. Many of its soldiers are determined to see the battle through.
Private Ansar Javed for instance. During a three-hour battle to reach a Taliban position in May, the 24-year-old slowly made his way up a mountain, dodging incoming rockets and grenades.
Then, in an instant, a sniper’s bullet struck the front of his neck, causing paralysis from the waist down. He is barely able to move his arms and has no control over his bowels.
“We are doing everything we can. We have to finish them off,” he said, speaking from a hospital bed.
“We don’t need anyone’s help,” he added bitterly, referring to the United States
The tense alliance between the two nations is likely to come under more stress, with stepped up demands from the United States for Pakistan to take decisive action against militants – including those Pakistan regards as assets.
Washington hopes to stabilise the region as much as possible by the end the of 2014, when all Nato troops are due home from Afghanistan. For Pakistan, any relationship with the militants in Afghanistan will be a vital lever after the withdrawal.
The calculations mean little for people like Sahib Khan Awan, who has already given his oldest son, Faiz Sultan, to the cause of stamping out militancy.
The lieutenant hurled grenades into a Taliban bunker killing 30 fighters before he was shot repeatedly in the chest. When his son’s commander phoned him with the tragic news, Sahib asked just one question.
“I said, ‘Tell me where did my son receive the bullets’? If the bullets are in his back, then just bury him there. If he has bullets in his chest, then bring him to my village,” he said, explaining that only cowards run from the enemy.
“The commander told me, ‘Congratulations. Your son has received 22 bullets in his chest’.”
That same day Sahib signed up his other son to help fight the Taliban.

Induction of young Balochs in Pak Army

IT was really a fascinating scene to watch on Tuesday when thousands of young Balochs participated in a thrilling passing out parade at the EME Centre at Quetta marking their regular formal induction into Pakistan Army after their normal training. The spirited and motivated youths from the province pledged allegiance to the country and saluted national flag, which was a reassuring development in the backdrop of intensive propaganda campaign launched by some quarters.

The induction of five thousand young boys from the province into Pakistan Army is one of the numerous initiatives by the army leadership to bring about a positive change in Balochistan where youth are being misled by some elements. In August 2011, Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani inaugurated a mineral development project in Musakhel area of Balochistan on the demand of local people to exploit coal and marble deposits for development of the area. On that occasion he had reassured people of Balochistan that the army had no eyes on resources of the provinces and only wanted to exploit them for development of the province and welfare of its people. Similarly, the army has opened several cadet colleges and other formal educational institutions in different areas, which would surely go a long way in bringing about a silent revolution in the province. We believe that this is the way forward and not reliance on use of force or operations to resolve political issues. Surgical operations can be short-lived while initiation of developmental activities, establishment of educational and health facilities and creation of infrastructure would help change complexion of different areas on long-term basis. It is important to provide job opportunities to young people so that their energies are utilized for healthy activities. While the army is doing its job, it is also imperative that the government and politicians too realize their responsibility and contribute towards mainstreaming of Balochs by addressing their sense of deprivation through a combination of measures including promotion of the culture of tolerance and accommodation. Initiatives like Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan and devolution of powers to the provinces are laudable but their impact must be felt at the grassroots.

Pakistan will not tolerate cross-border attacks, says Kayani

ISLAMABAD: US special envoy to Afghanistan and Pakistan Marc Grossman on Thursday arrived in Pakistan for talks with the country’s top political and military leadership.
Grossman held an important meeting with Pakistan’s army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani. The two discussed US concerns about the Haqqani network and other security issues, DawnNews reported.
During the meeting, Kayani told Grossman that Afghanistan’s soil was being used against Pakistan. He made it clear to the US envoy that Pakistan would not tolerate cross-border attacks from Afghanistan any longer.
The army chief also laid stress on better bilateral ties based on mutual cooperation.
The general said Pakistan was taking steps to halt the movement of terrorists in the Pak-Afghan border area.
He also urged a stepped up role for the trilateral commission. The commission should be provided with more intelligence sharing to curb terrorism, he added.
Mr Grossman, during the meeting, said that the strains in relation between the two allies were temporary and that the two countries needed to think of a way forward.
He said that Pakistan and other countries in the region were facing terror threats and that the US wanted better ties with Pakistan.
Mr Grossman also held meetings with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar.

Tackling Baloch concerns

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani made a good gesture, rather renewed his earlier pledge, of holding talks with the “angry” Baloch leaders who were disturbing the peace in Balochistan. “We are ready to go to their doorstep to resolve issues through dialogue,” he told the media at Quetta on Tuesday after attending a passing-out parade of 5,000 army recruits from the province. Mr Gilani admitted that the neglect of Balochistan in the past had resulted in the present situation. However, he believed that his government was working to remove the sense of deprivation through a number of projects that had either been completed, were in the process of execution, or had been approved and were due to be taken up in course of time. Out of the Rs 305 billion allocated for these 133 projects, Rs 126 billion had already been spent and for the current fiscal year another Rs 28 billion had been set aside.
The resource-rich province of Balochistan, with all the injustices it has had to bear at the hands of successive governments over the past 60 years, was crying out for special attention when the PPP-led set-up assumed power. President Zardari, no doubt, did offer an apology for the denials of legitimate rights of its people, but that was hardly enough to assuage the frayed tempers of the deprived elements. Building on the sentiments that apology might have created, the government ought to have moved fast to execute the Aghaz-i-Haqooq-i-Balochistan it launched. That would have spoken for its sincerity and commitment to remove the feeling of alienation among the people.
Unfortunately, the upshot of a relaxed approach appeared in the form of a dangerous meddling by hostile foreign forces, which have never been in short supply. Currently, joining hands with India, which is always on the look-out for an opportunity to create problems for Pakistan, and unfriendly Afghanistan, the superpower helped aggravate the situation and today the country finds itself at a crossroads: one of the main Baloch leaders running armed struggle against the government had for long had a safe house in Afghanistan to direct his campaign, but now has moved to Switzerland – all this neither without the permission of Kabul, nor without the complicity of Washington. The US, being the occupying power, carries the main responsibility for stabbing an ally in the war on terror in the back. That is also evident from an array of consulates, officially listed or not, along the Pak-Afghan border, which are training recruits to the anti-Pakistan movement in Balochistan, give them funds and supply arms. Thus, there exists an indisputable evidence of the foreign hand.
The task for Pakistan might appear formidable, but sincerity of purpose in redressing the grievances of the people of Balochistan would elicit a spontaneous positive response that would surprise these hostile forces; for the Baloch are no less patriotic than any other Pakistanis. Once their only grouse – the denial of due share in the development of the country – is taken care of, feelings of optimism would take root, the foreign hand automatically weaken and shrivel, losing its effectiveness, and peace will return.

China has no military presence in Gilgit or AJK

XINJIANG: The Chinese authorities have strongly refuted the Indian Army Chief General VK Singh’s recent claim about the presence of the Peoples’ Liberation Army’s (PLA) troops in the Northern Areas of Pakistan, saying the charge is totally baseless and proves its ulterior motives.

Even though the supposed Chinese military presence in the Federally Administered Northern Areas (FANA) of Pakistan has been a matter of intense speculation in New Delhi, it was the first time that a serving Army Chief went public with the Indian military establishment’s assessment about the kind of Chinese presence in the northern areas of Pakistan. “Around 4,000 Chinese including troops of the People’s Liberation Army are present in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir, Army Chief General VK Singh told Indian journalists on October 5 in New Delhi.

However, some senior foreign office officials of China told this scribe during a briefing in Urumqi, the capital of the trouble-stricken Xinjiang Province, that the Indian Army Chief’s claim about the presence of the Chinese troops in the Northern Areas of Pakistan was untrue and must be based on some misunderstanding. While diplomatic ties between China and India have improved in recent years, they are still grumpy over territorial claims from both the countries, dating back to a border war in 1962.

While India and Pakistan control Azad Kashmir and Jammu Kashmir respectively, China also claims part of northeastern Kashmir that it says is part of Tibet. Therefore, Beijing is highly critical of India’s support for the Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama, who fled Tibet in 1959 and set up a government-in-exile in the northern Indian hill town of Dharmsala.

With this background in mind, the Indian military establishment is raising hue and cry about the alleged influx of construction, engineering and communication units of People’s Liberation Army into Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

The Indian military officials further allege that several thousand Chinese troops are also stationed in the Khunjerab Pass on the Xinjiang border of China to protect Karakoram Highway construction crews, with ready access to Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Indian Army Chief is not the first Indian military official to have talked about the alleged Chinese presence in the Northern Areas of Pakistan. In April this year, India’s Northern Army Commander Lt Gen KT Parnaik [while addressing a seminar in Jammu and Kashmir] had said that the Chinese footprint in the Pakistan-administered Kashmir was increasing steadily and its troops are actually present along the Line-of-Control.

“Chinese presence in Gilgit-Baltistan and the Northern Areas [of Pakistan] is increasing steadily. There are many who are concerned about the fact that if there was to be hostility between India and Pakistan, what would be the complicity of Chinese. Not only they are in the neighbourhood but the fact that they are actually present and stationed along the LoC,” Lt. Gen Parnaik had said.

But according to Zhang Xiaodi, the director general of the foreign affairs office in Urumqi, the capital of Xinjiang, told The News in a meeting the other day that there was no truth in the allegation levelled by the Indian military officials. “There are only Chinese construction teams working in the Northern Areas of Pakistan on certain development projects being carried out by Pakistan and China jointly. But the presence of the Peoples Liberations Army’s troops there is out of question”, he added.

However, there are those in the Pakistani foreign office circle who view the recent allegation by the Indian Army chief in the backdrop of the Pakistan military leadership’s decision to include for the first time the Chinese troops in military exercises along the border with Indian states of Punjab and Rajasthan. In fact, it was the 101 Engineering Regiment of the People’s Liberation Army that took part in military exercises with their Pakistani counterparts in August 2011.

Musharraf hints at supporting Imran

LAHORE – All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) founder Pervez Musharraf, terming ISI a lifeline for the security of the country, has said any attempt to weaken the ISI and Pakistan Army will destabilise Pakistan.

He was addressing the LUMS students through a video conference on Sunday.

Hinting at the possibilities of newly-born APML’s support for Imran Khan’s PTI, he said that APML could stand by PTI if Imran Khan would take up the challenge of doing away with the crises facing the country and strengthening Pakistan.

Alleging PML-N and PPP for creating serious crises in the country, he said the masses should get rid of PML-N and PPP in the best interest of the country and vote out both the political parties from power in the next elections.

Recalling blunders of his regime, he said that banning media and striking the infamous NRO were the biggest mistakes of his government. Musharraf claimed the premier Shaukat Aziz had forwarded the reference against Chief Justice of Pakistan during his tenure and he acted on the reference in accordance with the Constitution. He said the decision of November 3 was a joint decision of the prime minister, military and the ruling party at that time.

Former president said that Afghanistan might face a 1989-90-like situation if a stable political government had not been established in Kabul before the exit of Nato forces. He said the US administration had realised the fact that stability in Afghanistan couldn’t be ensured without Pakistan’s assistance, however the incumbent Pakistan government failed to take a clear stance on Haqqani network.

Pakistan army kills 30 Afghan militants after border raid

Pakistani soldiers killed 30 Afghan militants who had crossed the border to attack the army, Pakistani military officials said Monday.

The raid Sunday night by a group of more than 200 Afghans could further damage an already difficult relationship between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which often accuse each other of failing to halt cross-border operations by militants.
One Pakistani soldier was killed and four were wounded in the latest frontier incident, which lasted close to an hour, the Pakistani officials said. There was no independent confirmation of the number of militants killed.
"The attack happened in the Barawal area of Upper Dir. Pakistani forces retaliated and the intruders slipped back," said one of the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Barawal is around 200 km (124 miles) northwest of the capital Islamabad.
Tension between the countries has been high since Afghan officials accused Pakistan's main intelligence agency of masterminding the September 20 assassination of Kabul's chief peace negotiator with the Taliban. Pakistan strongly denied the allegations.
Pakistan has repeatedly blamed Afghanistan for giving safe haven to militants on its side of the border, leaving Pakistan vulnerable to counter-attack when it chases them out of its own ethnic Pashtun tribal areas in the northwest.
The border area is home to several of the world's most dangerous militant groups, who train there and organize attacks on U.S.-led NATO forces and the Afghan army in Afghanistan, and government forces in Pakistan.
Afghan provincial officials say Pakistan's military fired hundreds of rockets between September 21 and September 25 in eastern Kunar and Nuristan provinces, which share a long border with lawless tribal areas inside Pakistan.
Although, the shelling did not cause major casualties, it followed more than a month of bombardments by Pakistan's military in June and July that Afghanistan said killed at least 42 people.
A Pakistan military official said the army only engaged militants who crossed the border to stage attacks.

Musharraf to seek govt, army protection

ISLAMABAD: Former president Pervez Musharraf s plans to return on Mar 23 are raising concerns that he would immediately become a target of al-Qaeda and the Taliban in Pakistan.

Spokesperson for the All-Pakistan Muslim League, Fawad Chaudhry, confirmed that the most serious threat will be from these organisations. We are in the process of forming a high-level committee, which will coordinate with the Pakistani as well as the international security agencies to make the best possible security arrangements for Musharraf, who is expected to land either in Lahore, Sukkur or Islamabad.

Musharraf prefers not to land in Karachi as it may give a wrong message that he is being welcomed by MQM, Fawad said.

It was also learnt that the former president can also approach the government as well as the Army for providing him adequate security on his return.

The APML spokesman said that in accordance with the Presidential Privileges Act the government and the Army are bound to provide him complete security. In light of that, we will certainly approach both, the government as well as the Army, for making adequate security arrangements. This would also be a test case for the government and the Army.

However, when approached the Inter-Service Public Relations refused to offer any comments on the matter.

Pervez Musharraf, who is very cautious about his security and never puts faith in un-tested and un-trustworthy people, prefers to hire his own highly trained foreign commandos who are expected to accompany him on his return to Pakistan.

On the other hand the former chief of the Inter Service Intelligence, Gen. (Retd) Hameed Gul, when contacted, said that now as Pervez Musharraf is no longer the part of the Army, just like General Aslam Beg, General Jehangir Karamat, General Waheed Kakar and others, who have all retired, are responsible for their own security.

Army or any other government security institutions are not officially responsible for their personal security. As such, on his return, Pervez Musharraf should also be himself responsible for his security and safety. So, neither the government nor the Army or any other security agency would be ready to take the responsibility for his safety and security in Pakistan, Gen (Retd) Hameed Gul said.

Senator Mushahidullah Khan, of PML-N told The News that his party wishes that Musharraf should return to his country so that he may know first hand how the people of Pakistan feel about him.

My party is not concerned as to who will provide security to Musharraf. However, if the sitting government provided security to Musharraf, it would reveal the truth behind the NRO (National Reconciliation Order). I am sure that Musharraf will never return because there is no role for him to play here now, Mushahidullah Khan told The News .

No more military operations: Kayani

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s military on Thursday hinted that it had no plans to launch a military operation in an obvious reference that the much- debated North Waziristan operation was not on the cards.
During his brief interaction with the journalists, Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani almost stopped short of ‘warning’ Afghanistan that any future aggression from the Afghan side would be paid in the same coin. “We have made adequate arrangements to avert incursions from Afghan side into Pakistani areas.”
Kayani spoke after a ceremony held in connection with Saudi-Pak joint military exercise Samsaam IV at Mangla Cantonment, a few kilometres from Jehlum, one of Pakistan’s largest cantonment areas. Saudi Military Chief General Khalid bin Bander accompanied General Kayani.
“Military operation is not a solution to every problem. We’re done with those operations where we had to. Now it’s the duty of civilian government to establish its writ and run the affairs,” Kayani said. His comments are largely seen in context with the Pak-US row that had spurred to a wider degree of hostility, lately, against the US demand to Pakistan for taking on terrorist sanctuaries, particularly the Haqqani Network, in NWA. “Military cannot permanently stay at any given area. The civilian government has to take the charge, after all,” he said.
Following the attacks on the NATO headquarters and US Embassy in Kabul, the US former Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Committee Admiral Mike Mullen had accused Haqqani Network of planting these attacks saying Haqqanis were “veritable arm of ISI.” The Pak-US hostility mounted to culmination after Burhanuddin Rabbani, head of Afghanistan’s High Peace Council, was killed in a suicide attack in Kabul. Afghan President Hamid Karzai and intelligence officials claim having concrete evidences on Pakistan’s premier spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) involvement in Rabbani’s killing.
Afghanistan on Tuesday had accused Pakistan of not cooperating on Rabbani’s murder.
“Today we received a message from the embassy of Pakistan saying that since this issue has arisen in media, we cannot cooperate and we apologise for that,” Mohammad Yasin Zia, Afghanistan’s Deputy Head of the National Directorate of Security had told AFP. Pakistan rejected these charges as ‘unfounded and incorrect’
Speaking with this scribe from Kabul, Zia alleged again on Thursday that Pakistan was “very non-operative on hunting down Rabbani killers.” Despite Pakistan’s Foreign Office denied his previous allegation, Yasin Zia said Afghan authorities were yet to hear from ISI. “The problem with Pakistan is that its FO is devoid of any practical role in policy making and it’s the GHQ (General Headquarters) that makes policies at all the levels,” he said. When asked to comment on more or less similar scenario in Afghanistan where policy formulation rested with the Pentagon and Karzai administration, according to many, was ineffective or ceremonial, an irritated Zia said, “It’s a different thing, don’t drag me into it.”
Pakistan’s implied ‘warnings’ to Afghanistan are deciphered as being in sequel to this latest spate of tension. In a meeting with the US Central Command chief General James Mattis, General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani had reportedly demanded of the US and NATO to get cross-border incursions stopped from Afghan side.
Pakistan Army says that Haqqani Network is based in Afghanistan’s Kunar and Nuristan provinces, the areas that oversaw repeated attacks in Pakistan’s Chitral and Upper Dir from Afghan militants. The international community and the US do not buy this argument alleging that Haqqanis have safe havens in NWA. The other day, Pakistan’s former diplomat hailing from Waziristan Ambassador Rustam Shah Mohmand had told this paper, if Haqqanis were based in NWA, the US should have attacked them with drone-hits “instead of puling Pakistan’s leg”
Particularly intriguing was the way General Kayani spoke high about Saudi Arabia on Thursday. “Saudi Arabia has a very important role in Afghanistan,” he said referring to the oil rich country’s influence in this region. In another meaningful signal seemingly relayed to Washington, he also mentioned of China saying that next military exercises would be Sino-Pak.
In the backdrop of the US mounting pressure on Pakistan to take on Haqqani Network, Pakistan’s military failed to adopt any vivid policy line. An official statement from military’s media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) had termed Admiral Mullen’s statement as ‘very unfortunate’.
The Director General ISI Lieutenant General Ahmed Shuja Pasha had recently held secretive meetings with top Saudi intelligence officials and government functionaries to seek Saudi Arabia’s ‘intervention’ for diffusing tension between the two ‘allies’.

130 PMA - Join Pak Army as Commission Officer Job 2011

Click here for 130 PMA details

Nation should be informed about the conspiracy behind 1965 War…

This is 5th of September, before sunset three jeeps entered into Pakistan via Wahga. Few American

diplomats were riding in them, they were planned to attend a gathering in American Center Lahore on the night of 5th September. All these three jeeps stopped at Wahga Road near Manawaan Police Station. The luggage from 3rd jeep was transferred into other two jeeps , the passengers of jeeps duting this were gossiping with Pakistanis standing on the road to welcome the guests. After this two jeeps from India departed towards Lahore while the 3rd one returned back to India.
At 9 O’clock in the Amartasar cantonment the commanders of three divisions were busy in a meeting, there faces were shining due to happiness. The latest report from the Pakistani side of border was in front of them, there was no sign of movement of Pakistani forces, meaning the court was clear for them to play. The above mentioned secret report was forwarded to General Chauhdary in New Delhi, as soon as the report was received an emergency meeting was called in Camp Office of Indian Prime Minister Shastri, the mysterious activities were already going on here. Everyone’s face was showing signs of tensions as they were waiting for some report anxiously.
Indian Tanks Captured by Pakistani Forces
As soon as General Chauhdary arrived the doors of the conference room were closed, the persons waiting outside were silent in spite of having a crowd present there. No one was ready to look into each others eyes, suddenly the door of the conference room opened, General Chauhdary, Secretary Defense Chawan and Defense Minister Gulzari Laal Nanda came out together. Gulzari Laal told the staff present outside happily that Prime Minister has signed the orders to attack Pakistan at once, now by the grace of Bhagwan/God the problem of Pakistan will be buried for ever along with Kashmir.
The Secretary of Information Ministry met the Shastri along with the prepared notes for headlines of tomorrow’s newspapers and script for the special bulletin of radio Aakashwaani. There was only one news report, “Indian army has captured Lahore without any big war/fight, on few places the continued resistance by Pakistani forces is being reported which will be crushed soon. General Chauhdary has left a message in the name of nation that on the evening of 6th September he will drink in the name of victory in Lahore Gymkhana Club and will inform the nation about the future of Pakistan as decided by Prime Minister.”
The Jeep of Indian Major General Parasad; he left it and ran away during a retaliation attack by Pakistani forces
It was not dawn yet, the cold air was forecasting the changing weather, this was the last quarter of the night between 5 and 6 September. The infantry troops of Indian army were forwarding towards Pakistani border singing songs and happily followed by APC’s and Tanks. Nothing was audible in this noise of armored vehicles. The peace and trust over the faces of advancing Indian troops was telling some other story, otherwise there is no such an example of the army advancing in such a non professional way towards the enemy. Even in the time of swords and arrows the powerful armies did not attack the weak countries in such manners under the cover of night, these armies used to move under the sounds of drums and this was the sign of bravery of the army but there was nothing like that in our case. Than what were the reasons behind the confidence of Indian army? Were they informed through trustworthy resources that there will be no Pakistani forces to resist them? In order to get the answers to all such questions a big commission should be formed, after complete investigations nation should be informed about the actual situation and conspiracy. People demanding investigations in Kargil war, or disclosure of reports over the fall of Dhaka, why they do not demand the investigative commission over 1965 war? Who is the big traitor of Pakistan behind this conspiracy who could not allow an open investigation?
According to the orders given to Indian army by High Command they had to capture the BRB canal before the sunrise, than they had to move towards Lahore through Mehmood Booti root and capture Badaami Bagh, afterwards troops had to move forward north and capture Ravi bridge. The central part of the attacking Indian troops had to capture Pakistani troops lying within their quarters. The core of General Harbakhash Singh including 3 division and 2 brigades of Armored Personnel Carriers was given responsibility for this fast victory. After fall of Lahore the second big attack was planned over Sialkot. Moreover Sambrial, Gujranwala and Wazirabad were to be captured as well. Why New Delhi was so much confident about its plan, obviously there were some reasons behind this, some conspiracies with the help of Pakistani traitors were going on.
General Ayub Khan visiting Chumb
This is true that due to the war with China in 1962 America and followers had provided heaps of weapons to India, soviet union was also providing India with lethal weapons due to its disputes with China. Neither Indian army had shortage of manpower nor of weapons, while Indian army officers were trained from British Military Academy, most of them had participated in the 2nd world war, they were aware that what is war and how it is fought. But here the case was different, Indian army was not going to fight a war but to make a history of very disgusting conspiracy. The links of this conspiracy were spread from head of Foreign Ministry of Pakistan to Washington, however the soldiers of Pakistan army drew a line with their blood and made it impossible for Indians to cross this line.
Here I would like to mention a little about 1962 China-India war and cunningness of Hindu forces, this will be helpful in understanding the 1965 war. Because Indian children are being thought this mutilated history that China showed aggressiveness and captures Indian areas, but according to historical facts, in 1951 America signed a defense treaty with Pakistan and in 1958 at the time of its renewal India started propaganda that Pakistan will utilize the weapons given by USA against India. On this USA assured India that this will not happen and if this happened USA will take practical measures against Pakistan. The reason behind Indian propaganda was that India had planned to cut of China from areas neighboring to Kashmir and India was afraid that during India-China war Pakistan may attack India
On 12 October 1962 Jawahar Laal Nehru told Indian parliament that he has ordered his army to, “push back Chinese forces out of disputed areas”. The newspaper from New York, Herald Tribune published this as a formal announcement of war on 15 October while British newspaper published this as a warning of Nehru to China. As soon as Indian forces attacked China, US and British cargo planes got busy in piling weapons into India or in other words an aerial bridge of weapon supplies was established. On this few members of US Congress protested against this and criticized that India has attacked China so USA is not bound to provide support to India. On this American Joint Chief of Staff General Maxwell in a secret meeting confirmed that India has attacked China but it is necessary to backup India for safety of USA. On this question that India will not use these weapons against Pakistan General replied that India has assured not to do so. The details of this meeting are present in New York Times published on 19 April 1963.
Till 20 November 1962 India had lost at least 15000 square miles of its area, in this way in the east of Bhutan whole of the North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) was captured by Chinese forces, not only this Sikkim was also to fall out of Indian hands. However on 21 November Chinese had taught enough lesson to Indians and announced censure of war. But USA and Britain continued supply of weapons to India. Through this support India increased its number of 11 regular divisions to 22 till 1964. America and Britain also signed a deal to train 6 mountain divisions of Indian army. All this was being done under the cover of increasing Indian military power against China.
Lets come back towards today’s topic, Indian army forwarding towards Pakistani border was dead assured that no Pakistani forces will be present in the area to resist. According to the drivers of American jeeps (one of them was identified as commandant of Indian infantry unit while other two were also officers of Indian army) had reported that their were no signs of Pakistani army over the border. While the Pakistani foreign ministry was repeatedly telling the govt. that we had to show the world that Pakistan and Pakistani forces are peaceful and away from borders even in such intense situation. In contrast to this Pakistani army keeping in view the movements of Indian army across the border had deployed few units in civil trucks with light weapons on the border. As soon as Indian soldiers entered into Pakistani territory they were welcomed by Pakistani bullets. They were not ready for such attack, they thought they had been trapped and lost their nerves. In the first attack uncountable Hindu soldiers were killed while a big number of them laid their weapons, the driver of American jeeps was also one of them (how many good deeds of Americans we can deny, they had done so much to show their friendship towards Pakistan). After this Indians attacked a full attack with the help of the APC’s and tanks but Pakistani soldiers had built such a strong defense line with their blood that in spite of repeated attacks and modern American weapons India had to lick the dust.
After this India decided to use its air force and on 7th of September proud of Pakistan, M.M. Aalam downed 5 Indian hunter plains just in one flight with the help of his fighter jet F-86 over Lahore. Uncountable Lahori people witnessed this scene by standing over their rooftops. This destroyed the morale of Indian air force to such extent that they did not dare to look towards Lahore again. However Pakistan air force dropped personnel from special services group on Indian airports Pathan Kot, Adampur, and Halwara, they without caring for their life destroyed ready to flight Indian fighter jets. In spite of capturing Lahore as planning and conspiracy of India, she had to loose 1617 square miles of its area. Hundreds of Indian soldiers were made Prisoners of War.
In this 17 day long Pak-India war, India had to face severe international criticism. This was not something usual, India had to second go to world powers for cease of war after China taught it a lesson. Pakistan made India to lick the dust in spite of getting afraid of its ten times bigger army. But alas! The defenders of Pakistan defeated the conspiracy to disintegrate Pakistan in 1965 by giving up their lives, but at least in 1971 the traitors succeeded. If we had conducted fair trials of the traitors of 1965 war of unveiled the culprits of this conspiracy the tragedy of 1971 could have been stopped. Now the situation in Pakistan would have been much different. We accept at that time the disgusting game against Pakistan was hidden and there was no free media to unveil the traitors. But the shameful fact is that same internal traitors are busy in conspiracies, like the past USA is busy in conspiracies against Pakistan in the disguise of friend and the traitors present within us are agents of US. In order to tackle these conspiracies and defeat these traitors it is necessary to unveil the conspiracy behind 1965 war…

Pakistan is Born to Exist Forever...

A different map prepared by another US think-tank, in this map they have tried to prove that USA had decided to break Pakistan and limit to Sindh river in order to block Chinese access to Gwadar. The Northern areas of Pakistan had been shown as part of Afghanistan. This operation had been code named as Operation Enduring Turmoil. The only mistake that maker of this map had done is that in spite of writing the name of New Delhi it has been denominated by Chakra Wheel (shown in the right side in the red circle), this proves that this map is also innovation of Hindus as well...
One dispute doesn’t end that other starts, every moment there is such unrest going on, which forces nation to worry about the integrity of country. At least there is some force behind this which wants to keep nation in chaos? Sometimes the linguistic riots erupts, the process to cool down this is going on that religious and sectarian disputes are highlighted,  if no reason  for unrest is found the provincial disputes are promoted to create chaos. While no one is ready to give attention towards the actual problems of the public, used by all parties and their leaders to win elections, but after getting in power they blame ex-govt. for all these problems and this process keeps on going. The most painful aspect of this game is that when these politicians could not give a satisfactory reply to the problems they all end up on this, “the integrity of Pakistan is endangered, Pakistan is going to be disintegrated because it is useless now for USA”. Pakistan is the sole country in the world whose citizens' favorite topic is safety of their mother land, is this discussion done by general public? No! this duty is fulfilled by our rich elites, so called enlightened and modern liberal fascists in lobbies of five star hotels, or in the gatherings of so called intellectuals. In the free time their favorite topic of discussion is, “When Pakistan is going to be broke” (and they going to be entitled for payment).
In Libya the treachery against Gaddafi formed the shape of civil war and for six months whole country was in the grip of civil war. There are also people from different cultures, languages and tribes, but no one ever dared to talk about the disintegration or change in the boundaries of the country. Whether these are Congo, Rwanda or troubled countries of Latin America, in spite of the grave internal situation no one has ever dared to talk about the disintegration of these countries, than why only we are indulged in this problem. At least why we have less trust over the integrity of our motherland, and more over the rented external think tanks and their negative reports?

However, have we ever thought, American intellectuals, unaware of our seasons as well, why don’t they represent their hypothesis or imaginary maps about other countries of the world like they do in case of Pakistan. Why only they make forecasts about Pakistan that it will break in 2012, than they extend their forecast to 2015 and now according to new prediction till 2025 Pakistan will not be present on the map of the world. Cannot we understand such a little fact that in the whole world there is only country India who has made the separate identity of Pakistan the problem for its integrity? It is the only country which thinks Pakistan as an integral part of India, which was cut down by Muslims of India under the leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah based on Two Nations Theory. India; whose all foreign policies hover around only one point that Pakistan should be weakened internally to such extent state that it loses its identity, and in order to fulfill its damn dreams, Two Nations Theory is the first target of India, because this ideology was the cause of division of India. This is the miracle of Indian investment that Pakistan is unable to build Kala Bagh Dam, and this is the miracle of Indian investment as well that American (rented) think tanks are issuing negative reports against Pakistan on daily basis. But the shameful aspect is that such propaganda is warmly welcomed in Pakistan, on the one hand anti-Two Nation Theory elements take it as a success of their heinous thinking and try to spread further pessimism, while on the other hand the opposition uses these reports to pressurize ruling party.
Otherwise had any think tank of USA presented any map before disintegration of Soviet Union or in the case of fall of Dhaka there was no such map or report visible. In contrast to this USA was angry with Pakistan because during China-India war in 1962 Pakistan has not allowed India to use Eastern-Pakistan air bases against China and USA wanted to make Eastern Pakistan an independent state before any expected India-China war. Behind the fall of Dhaka, there were also Hindu conspiracies and dream of Akhand Bharat. In this conspiracy, India had full support of higher officials and prominent personalities of Pakistan. If American think tanks are so much capable of predicting future than why did not they warn USA about attack over Afghanistan that do not go there this will prove graveyard for American forces. In spite of ten years Americans have failed to bring peace there or give a suitable reason for attack over a sovereign country. Than why there is pessimism just because of the so-called maps prepared by few lunatics of American think tanks, why are we worried that USA wants to disintegrate Pakistan. If we are ourselves ready to burn our own house than why blame others, on the one hand we take oaths to protect our motherland and on  the other hand we discuss the possibilities of disintegration of Pakistan, at least why? We should be ashamed of this and we should be accountable to our subconscious, are not our enemies using us against our own country?

After
From September 17, 2011

The maps shown by Altaf Hussein during Press Conference which were prepared by Ralph Peter, who got self retirement from US military, he published those maps in his article BLOOD BORDERS in 2006 in American Armed Forces Journal. While above mentioned article had been already published in January 2006 without maps. In his article he has tried to convince international community that in order to establish peace in the world the present boundaries of the Middle East should be changed because Muslims have been divided into Ismaeli, Naqashbandi, Shia and Kurds etc. So that is why whole world is in the clutches of terrorism, especially Wahabi sect is misusing this situation and is busy in cultivating extremism and terrorists. For this purpose Saudi Arab and Pakistan are playing important role. The change of boundaries on the basis of Blood relations, sects and tribes is inevitable. This was the reason behind the name of the article BLOOD BORDERS. The strange thing in this map is that the link of Pakistan with China in this map has been cut-down, which is the old dream of India, keep in mind that along with the publishing of these maps editor of the magazine had included the stance of American govt. as well in order to fulfill legal demands. Commenting on this White House termed these maps as innovation of writers brain and termed this as impractical because the geography of a country is not the cake of Ralph Peter’s birthday which can be simply cut down according to his wishes and divided among peoples. Moreover Armed Forces Journal has nothing to do with American forces or govt. and neither it has any readers outside USA.

Now a days a map about American conspiracy has been cause of trouble for Pakistani public. People are worried that what will be their fate? Above mentioned map was presented by Altaf Hussein as a proof while talking about a USA conspiracy against Pakistan. If this had been done by a common man this was not something to be worried about because due to favors of India we can see hundreds of such maps on the net. While Altaf Hussein has also said that after unveiling the USA conspiracy and maps he may not address the public, live again. However, he did not disclose that when and where these maps were prepared?
Lets first talk about the above mentioned map, these maps were published by American digest, “Armed Forces Journal” in its June 2006 edition. If one may remember Dr. Shahid Masood had done 2 or 3 programs on these maps as host in a talk show and in order to pressurize Musharaf govt. our famous politicians have given their comments over these maps that this is because of the dictatorship that USA is going to break Pakistan into pieces. Like Altaf Hussein, Mr. Shahid had not informed nation that who had prepared these maps and what was the purpose behind them and are they really part of any conspiracy to disintegrate Pakistan? Astonishing fact is that even now, our intellectuals and politicians predicting the future of the Pakistan on the basis of these maps have not dared to look over the pruning of other Middle Eastern countries in these maps. In these maps, in very funny manners the boundaries of Turkey, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan have been changed and divided into a dozen of states, in this map neither Palestine is visible (for which UNO is preparing to accept it as a sovereign country) nor the Chinese province Xinjiang has been cut away from China (for which USA and India had joint ventured for creating unrest), nor the freedom fighters within India had been given any importance where 16 recognized freedom movements are present. Even India itself accepts that about 1/3rd of India is under the control of freedom fighters. The great joke in the map is including Indian Held Kashmir into India while showing Azad Kashmir as part of Afghanistan. All these factors show the immaturity, hatred against Muslims and sponsorship of India and Jews for the maker of the map. This is also visible from the title of the map i.e. Redrawing the Middle East Map. Moreover there is nothing exceptional in the map to worry about, you may buy latest “world atlas” or encyclopedia, or open any website you will find thousands of such maps. In these maps one can find the details of religions, nations, languages, tribes of sects of every continent, which had been represented leaving aside the geographical boundaries of the countries.
Here one may raise the question if these maps do not have any importance that what is the problem, the problem is not of these maps but traitors present within us in the name of liberalism, who think division of India and establishment of Pakistan was unnecessary, and position of Pakistan against India is source of pain for them. In spite of expressing their views against Pakistan openly, they take the support of Hindu and Jewish propaganda and try to create unrest and pessimism in Pakistani public. Sometimes they have the dreams of Greater Pakhtunistan and sometimes they foresee Greater Baluchistan. They cry for the shortage of electricity but when one talks about the building to Kala Bagh Dam they threaten that Pakistan will broke apart, so no construction of dams, if one talks about the independence of Kashmir from India, they get angry because according to them Pakistan is a failed state (while India murderer of uncountable humans is favorite state, so why do not they migrate to India to enjoy liberalism and democracy?). But they should keep in mind that Pakistan was established forever and will be there forever (they may live or die not a problem).
Ralph Peter
In the end I would like to give a brief introduction of Ralph Peter, he is German by birth. He joined US army in 1977 and got commissioned in 1980 after completing training. He was posted in 46th Infantry regiment of 1st Battalion, which is the part 1st armored division of US army. He spent ten years of his job as Military Intelligence Officer in Germany and as being expert on USSR he used to visit Afghanistan regularly. In 1998 he himself got retirement from army. During his service he wrote novels with the name of OWEN PARRY. Now a days due to being famous for his hypothetical and violent analyses he is Permanent Defense Analyst for American News Channel FOX. In 2008 he wrote an essay against Pakistan and tried to prove that Islam has failed to unite Sindhi, Punjabi, Baloch and Pakhtun, the title of the article was;

Bewildered and Embarrassed Americans Blaming Pakistan for Terror!

Smoke rising from the building of US embassy; Taliban held that building for at least 19 hours
Before this only India used to accuse Pakistan of terrorism, not only this in last 25 years India has several times to tried to get UN declaration of Pakistan as a terrorist state. In order to fulfill its hideous plans against Pakistan, India itself conducted terrorist attacks in its own cities murdering its own innocent cities. Moreover India used present govt. of Afghanistan against Pakistan in its propaganda. However now it is different, first time in the history USA has accused Pakistan for being involved in terrorism. In a meeting with reference to attack on US embassy in Kabul on 13 September, in front of Defense Committee of Senate American Chief of army Admiral Mike Mullen said that Haqqani network attacked the embassy with the help of ISI. Pakistan is involved in terrorism in Afghanistan. Pakistan is involved in terrorism in Afghanistan. Haqqani network is the real power of the ISI. he told Senate that he has reliable intelligence reports (before attack on Afghanistan and Iraq US also had reliable reports which later proved to be false and propaganda that Haqqani network is involved in all terrorist activities including attack on Inter-Continental Hotel Kabul, moreover ISI is using Haqqani network as Proxy War against America.

Now one may call it embarrassment of American forces or a struggle in vain to hide its weaknesses but reality is that American govt. and Pentagon is facing extreme criticism and shame in front of its people. Because in the building of US embassy situated in extremely high security zone of Kabul, few Taliban entered into the building and faced American commandoes considered as Supermen and unbeatable. This was directly telecasted by CNN and other channels.
Smoke rising from the building...

American leadership and army was facing same situation in front of American people which Pakistan had to face after operation against Osama in Abbottabad on 2 May. But the situation of Kabul was different from the situation of Abbottabad in this regard that the building which was claimed to be residency of Osama was not protected by trained and well armed commandoes. US had attacked this building like thieves by utilizing its latest night vision technology. Moreover this attack was conducted by US under the veil of friendship. while the building in Kabul was covered by several security blockades, security cameras and space satellite was also tracking every movement around this building.

So the people around the globe along with Americans were correctly taking this building in Kabul as Pentagon outside USA. But Alas! few crazy Afghans who had the concrete belief that US had illegally captured their motherland for its evil plans, to get freedom is their only aim, we may name them as Taliban or terrorists but they decreased American Pentagon in Kabul into “Pent-Gone”. Now one can easily imagine that Generals of a world power having captured half of the resources of world, equipped with B-52 bomber to delete traces of human race from the height of thousands of feet, and known as unbeatable, what they could have said in their defense in front of representatives of their people, they had only one way i.e. to blame others for their failures like before. So they blamed ISI for attack on embassy in Kabul.
Commandos busy in fighting with Taliban

Admiral Mullen accused Pakistan just in order to save his credibility but including him no one can answer this question, that if Pakistan is responsible to stop attackers/invaders from its tribal areas to Afghanistan than why US does not accept responsibility to stop terrorists invading from Afghanistan to attack Pakistan in the form of an army of hundreds? Moreover, had UNO made Pakistan bound to protect American and NATO forces at the time of declaration of the revolution against Afghanistan? Pakistan is target of attacks from two sides internationally; on the one hand, it has to face propaganda while on the other hand Pakistan is braving against terrorist and suicide attacks. Pakistani public is constantly bearing losses but no one is ready to accept our loss. Neither US media has any concerns with those who lost their lives in this American war for snatching Afghanistan's resources nor American rulers or Generals are concerned. There is  just a policy of genocide and snatching of Muslim’s resources which Americans has adopted under the cover of self innovated intelligence reports based upon lies. This policy of genocide gets strengthened every four years when there are Presidential elections due in USA. USA and other European states claim themselves as flag bearers of democracy, champions of human rights, freedom of speech and thought, and moral values, but if we look at the history after the disintegration of Soviet Union till now their hands are red with the genocide of Muslims in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan (as well as backing state terrorism in areas like Palestine and Kashmir). More than 4 million Muslims have been murdered by these beasts; while three times greater have lost their property, homes and livelihood. Still deaths from attacks on Libya are to be added yet. Behind every conspiracy and civil war in these Muslim countries, American Intelligence (terrorist) agencies had played great role. The actual number of deaths can only be found after peace is established there which seems to be a dream. In order to capture oil resources in Libya CIA staged a rebellion against Gaddafi, although after removing him they has captured oil fields but what happens to the rest of Libya and innocent citizens they are not concerned about this. Now there are reports that British and US intelligence agencies used Islamic extremists (internationally known as Al-Qaeda and Taliban), while on the other hand more than 15000 terrorists from Northern Alliance armed with American weapons were sent into Libya by USA (United Satanic Alliance). Now the situation in Libya is that liberal and Islamic groups had started war in between themselves for getting the power. There are threats that Libya will have to face same situation which was faced by Afghanistan after withdrawal of Russian forces, lets come back towards our today’s topic;
Burhanuddin Rabbani
The second major shock for US was death or Burhanuddin Rabbani, Rabbani was conducting talks with active Taliban commanders for establishment of peace since last two years. Keeping in view progress from these peace talks US had got names of few Taliban leaders removed from UN list of terrorists, in order to send a friendly message to Taliban. The target was only to show US public and international community that USA is withdrawing from Afghanistan after establishing peace. But USA wanted to keep Pakistan away from this peace process in order to insure that in future Afghanistan remains enemy of Pakistan. Meaning that Afghanistan and Pakistan who have adjacent boundaries, mutual cultures, relations, tribes become enemy of each other, without ground link from Pakistan Afghanistan may not survive while India which has no link with Afghanistan is given free hand to train terrorists there for Pakistan. By having friendly Afghanistan India should be able to conduct terrorism in Pakistan, suicide attacks, support armed movements and rebellions, all this is rightful for India. For Pakistan it is necessary to bear all this Indian aggression. Because few rebellious intellectuals, journalists, writers think that Pakistan’s policy towards Pakistan with reference to STRATEGIC DEPTH is wrong and interference of Pakistan army in Afghanistan. Moreover, after claiming these elements themselves raise hue and cry that they are being named as rebellions and pro-Indian. While the purpose of Strategic Depth policy for Afghanistan is only to insure that no interference and terrorists activities are conducted from Afghanistan which was pro-Indian since independence of Pakistan in 1947.
American Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta; known as guarantor for India
Here I would like to quote an incident about the vigilance of American and allied intelligence agencies for peace in Afghanistan by passing Pakistan. In the May of last year peace talks and meetings were initiated with a person named as Mullah Muhammad Mansoor claiming to be Taliban commander. When progress was seen, a message to Washington was sent that Taliban are ready for peace talks ignoring Pakistan. After further progress media in Washington was also allowed to publish news that ice has started melting and public will soon hear good news. CIA and European agencies also got courage that they can influence Afghanistan without Pakistan’s support. Hamid Qarzai arranged a secret dinner for Mullah Mansoor in the Presidential residency in order to make a deal. Chief of Afghan Intelligence Agency and NATO and CIA officials also participated. During all this, Mullah Mansoor was bestowed with bribe money and other gifts. Mullah Mansoor visited Brussels and other European countries for talks with European and American intelligence agencies. This trip was arranged by NATO. American media was waiting that when these good news are unveiled that suddenly they got reports that Mullah Mansoor has gone, they accused that ISI might have kidnapped him. However on 23 November 2010New York Times told the world that Mullah Mansoor was fake and not a Taliban commander. He befooled Americans and went away with millions of dollars. New York Times in a special report wrote that story of meetings with Mullah Mansoor seems to be just like as a spy novel, in which a fake person befooled Super Power like USA. Now American and Afghan officials are reluctant to trust anyone, that in the name of peace process with whom they started relations was fake.  He had no link with Taliban.
Admiral Mike Mullen
Now in the case of murder of Rabbani same like situation has been experienced. American officials had started claiming that murder of Rabbani was planned cross borders, in the words in Pakistan. They are of the view that Quetta Shoraa and Haqqani Network is involved into it. They are talking about attacks over Northern Waziristan for Haqqani Network and Baluchistan for Quetta SHoraa. According to New York Times the person who targeted Rabani was named as Asmat-u-Llah. He was in contact with Rabani, CIA and Afghan officials for last five months. He was not fake like Mullah Mansoor, but utilizing his close links with Taliban he had succeeded in reaching into the Aman Jirga for Peace talks. In order to gain trust of Rabbani he arranged many meetings between Rabbani and Taliban leaders, many of them laid down their weapons. According to the newspaper Taliban had planned to kill Rabbani at the end of winters, because they were of the view that Rabbani had been working to divide Taliban. They several times warned Rabbani but when he did not accept they had to kill him.
The building of US embassy in Kabul
Actual problem is not the attack over US embassy in Kabul or murder of Rabbani but problem is American control over Afghanistan through Northern Alliance. Pakhtun are not ready to accept this. America has befooled whole world in last ten years through its media that it is fighting against Muslim extremists in Afghanistan. While the ground realities are different, Pakhtun are fighting for freedom as they were fighting against Soviet Union, they will keep on fighting until they get freedom or doomsday.  Americans have now realized that they may survive for few years in Afghanistan by massacre but they cannot win the hearts of Afghan. Moreover in the way they have conducted genocide in Afghanistan there is no possibility of winning the hearts of Afghan. But before withdrawing from Afghanistan as defeated they want to spread such a destruction which can ensure the success of Obama in the Presidential campaign. Will discuss this later…

Haqqani network: Pakistan’s military ready to address US concerns

The Pakistan Army is ready to address the US concerns vis-à-vis the Haqqani network but shows no signs of going after them in the North Waziristan tribal region where, Washington believes, the insurgent group is headquartered.

At a meeting in Rawalpindi on Friday, the top military commanders expressed their willingness to lower tensions with the United States by narrowing down differences on the Haqqani network.
“Pakistan wants a constructive engagement with the US to deal with the Haqqani issue,” an official familiar with the development told The Express Tribune.
The official, who wished not to be named, ruled out the possibility of a military operation in North Waziristan – a region dubbed by the US as the most dangerous place on earth.
“Use of force is not the answer to every problem,” he said repeating the recent statement by Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
Addressing the Pak-Saudi joint military exercises in Mangla on Thursday, Gen Kayani reportedly said that military operations were not the ideal way of dealing with every issue.
His remarks are being seen as Pakistan’s hardening stance on the North Waziristan operation despite the mounting US pressure.
However, it is unclear what exactly Pakistan is offering to the US as an alternative to a military operation in order to deal with the Haqqanis.
A senior military official, when approached, referred to the foreign ministry’s last news briefing in which it said that Pakistan’s policy was guided by its national interests.
“We have our own national interests … we have certain redlines and we are very clear that we won’t compromise on them,” said the official who spoke after being assured that his name would not be revealed.
The corps commanders also discussed possible implications of the recent strategic partnership deal that Afghanistan signed with India. The commanders voiced concerns on allegations by senior Afghan officials that the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) was involved in the assassination of former Afghan president Bhurhanuddin Rabbani.
A brief statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) did not mention any of these issues. “The conference was a part of regular monthly meetings. The forum took a comprehensive overview of the routine professional matters aimed at enhancing proficiency of the army,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, US Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter met with Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar to discuss the ongoing tensions between their countries.
“Bilateral relations and the regional situation were discussed. Both agreed to work together for strengthening bilateral cooperation and for coordination on regional issues,” said a brief statement issued by the Foreign Office.
An American diplomat commenting on the meeting said that the two countries were making efforts to sort out their differences.

Recent Strategic Partnership Deal Between India and Afghanistan

The United States welcomed the strategic partnership agreements between India and Afghanistan announced during the New Delhi visit of the Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, a US official said.

The US State Department spokeswoman, Victoria Nuland, said she would first say that they were seeing the same reports that India and Afghanistan would soon announce a strategic partnership that India was going to participate in the new Silk Road Initiative.

“Those are both things that we very much welcome,” she said in response to a question. She however, refused to answer to questions about news reports of meetings between the US and Haqqani leaders.
“I will say to you again what we've been saying for some two weeks very firmly with regard to the Haqqani network: Job one in our relationship with Pakistan is for us to work on the terror and the problem that they are posing to Pakistan, to the US, to Afghanistan,” she said.

“The only other thing I would say here is it's patently ridiculous to think that the American government would be dictating to any other government who should or shouldn't join its ranks,” she said, noting the US was not in the business of dictating to other governments who should and shouldn't be a member of their ranks.
Nuland said there had not been any change in the US position on reconciliation. It was supporting an Afghan-led process of reconciliation trend. So the US’s efforts were in support of what the Afghans were up to, insisting, as did the Afghans, that anybody who was reconciled or would be pursuing reconciliation had to renounce violence, she added.

They had to sever their ties with al-Qaida and abide by the laws and the constitution of Afghanistan, including respecting the rights of women and ethnic minorities, she said.
These were our and the Afghans' criteria, but she did not comment on any specific conversations that were going on under that umbrella, added Nuland who concluded that those were the criteria that they required and so did the Afghans.

A war at cost of Pakistan

Wahab Munir Qureshi

9/11 will always be remembered as a day which changed the course of history. Pakistan joined the US in its so-called war against terror and implicitly signed the treaty of gradual but assured destruction. It was later reveled by Gen. (R) Musharraf, then President of Pakistan, how United States of America threatened Pakistan to join coalition forces or face dire consequences. He in his interview with CBS news show “60 Minutes” said that after the September 11 attacks the United States threatened to bomb Pakistan if it did not cooperate with America’s war campaign against the Taliban in Afghanistan. He further elaborated that the threat came from Assistant Secretary of State Richard Armitage and was conveyed to Musharraf’s intelligence director. “The intelligence director told me that (Armitage) said, be prepared to be bombed. Be prepared to go back to the Stone Age”.

Now ten years down the road it’s worth analyzing how Pakistan has been affected economically and militarily, both at the regional and international levels due to this long war; the war against terror. Primarily, it was the economic aspect which influenced decision makers more then anything else to join the US in its world wide campaign against terror. It was estimated that the cost of this war to Pakistan would be $2.669 billion dollars. This was calculated on Pakistan’s assumptions that (i) the war that had begun on 7th Oct 2001 would end swiftly by December 2001. (ii) Normalcy would return on track from January 2001 (iii) The Taliban government would be ousted and a low intense fight would continue, but this would not affect the economy of Pakistan significantly (iv) the additional increase in freight cargo and war premium would be removed. It is obvious that the Pakistani ruling elite of that time failed to foresee the actual implications of joining the US-led camp. The cost of war which was estimated to be about $ 2.669 billon, actually reached up to $ 67.926 billon; war was supposed to end within two months, but intense fighting continued and is still underway, and it is not expected to end anytime soon. Taliban who were supposed to be ousted by January 2001 are still having shadow governments in 32 out of 34 provinces of Afghanistan. Therefore, it’s important to analyze how Pakistan’s economy has suffered over the years. This war has transformed a prestigious Pakistani nation into a nation of the downtrodden, where scholars and intellectuals spend most of their time and energies in accusing the great powers of not contributing significantly in return for Pakistan’s sacrifices in this war.

Now coming back to the economic losses that Pakistan has abided in this war against terror. Pakistan has already suffered almost $68 billion in losses – equivalent to almost half of the country’s total debt. In financial year 2010-11, Pakistan lost $17.83 billion, roughly equivalent to this year’s tax target, reveals the Economic Survey of Pakistan. These losses do not include the damages on account of a recent attack on Pakistan Navy base in Karachi, destroying two surveillances aircraft; the P3C-Orion.

It was the first time in the history of Pakistan-Afghanistan relations that Pakistan had a friendly government on its second longest boarder, with the Taliban in power. After joining the long war, Pakistan for the first time felt the need to secure its western boarders, as US was occupying Kabul and was transmitting instability into Pakistan. Pakistan was forced to deploy its army and its first soldiers stepped into the territory which has never been conquered and proven to be the grave yard for two super powers. Billions of dollars have already been spent, along with the loss of some 4000 army personnel’s lives in securing our western borders. On the contrary, this money could have been utilized for other productive purposes like generating electricity, building dams etc which, in turn, could have boosted economic activities in the country. In an IMF report, it is estimated that Pakistan has suffered losses of more than trillion of rupees in “war against terror”. Opening a new front and mobilization of Pakistan’s army to western boarders makes the country’s eastern boarders more vulnerable to Indian hostilities and aggression, which for now is deterred primarily due to Pakistan’s outstanding nuclear and missile capabilities. Pakistan has had to deal with a large number of pressing challenges in its military campaign in Swat and Waziristan but has emerged successful despite lack of resources. Now America is threatening Pakistan to start another military operation against the alleged presence of Haqqani group in Pakistan. While Pakistani officials have denied the presence of any such group on its territory, Sirajj-ud-din Haqqani has also denied their presence in Pakistan. Afghanistan is a safe heaven for those people who are working against the American intervention in Afghanistan, as 32 provinces are still under the rule of Shadow government of Taliban. Pakistan’s economy has been damaged badly over to its involvement in the war on terror and its dependence on foreign aid and services has increase. This reduces its ability to become self sufficient and also forces it to make compromises on its sovereignty, which is an integral part of modern nation-state system. Money given to Pakistan in the name of aid doesn’t even compensate one tenth of the losses it has incurred. US remains the main provider of aid to Pakistan, under heads like Economic Assistance, USAID, Military Assistance, Coalition Support Funds, Kerry Looger bill, etc. But large parts of this aid remain conditional and are meant for specific purposes which serve the interest of the US. Moreover, this aid is distributed through NGOs, which shows the level of trust US has on its front line coalition partner. In fact, this aid has proven to be poisonous for Pakistan’s economy, its GDP drops from 4.3% to 2.3% in ten years. Pakistan, by joining US led war on terror has entered into hostile relations with domestic and regional actors. In other words, the very act of becoming a front line ally of US, has jeopardized Pakistan’s security and economic existence. This has led to the creation of a law an order situation in Pakistan; deaths of around 35,000 innocent people, thousands wounded, and billions of dollars of property losses.

Huge sums of money are spent to improve the internal security of the country. CDA for example is planning to replace concrete blocks with automatic road blockers in Islamabad. The project will cost around Rs1.5 billion. Now, you may not come across any gates without security guards, holding a gun in his one hand and a metal detector in other; in front of walk through gate, behind security fence. This setup is now quite common in the country, but was never witnessed before 9/11. Country’s five star hotels are now converted into virtual bunkers with a small army of security guards. Similar setups are witnessed in schools, offices, factories and elsewhere. All these security measure need money, man power, and time which could otherwise be utilized to advance economic activities. Furthermore, these security measures make people insecure and act as a hurdle for foreign investors and investment.

Now it is quite obvious that Pakistan’s involvement in the war on terror has had detrimental consequences for Pakistan’s economy. If Pakistan had decided to stay away from this long war as Iran did, then Pakistan might have been in a better and stable economic position.
